Paul Gauguin Cruises

330 guests in the South Pacific. Private islets, Polynesian hosts, and shallow-draft access no one else has.

Built for These Waters

The m/s Paul Gauguin wasn’t repurposed for the South Pacific — she was built for it. Her shallow 17-foot draft accesses lagoons and island harbors that deeper ships can’t enter. For over 25 years, she’s sailed Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea, the Tuamotus, and the Cook Islands with 330 guests and a crew of 217 — a ratio that feels more private yacht than cruise ship. Now part of the PONANT family, she carries that French expedition heritage while keeping the intimate Polynesian character that’s made her legendary.

A Private Islet and a Watersports Marina

Motu Mahana, a private islet off Taha’a, is yours for the day: white sand, a barbecue spread, open bar, snorkeling in gin-clear water, and no one else around. The retractable watersports marina drops from the stern for complimentary kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling. PADI-certified SCUBA diving is available for those who want to go deeper.

Les Gauguins and Les Gauguines — Tahitian cultural hosts — bring Polynesian traditions onboard through dance, music, and genuine hospitality that can’t be replicated. The 2025 refurbishment added connecting staterooms, a redesigned Le Grill, and sustainability upgrades that eliminated plastic bottles fleet-wide. Three restaurants, all included, all open-seating.

Destinations & Experiences

Paul Gauguin’s itineraries are a perfect match for expedition cruise enthusiasts who want something warmer than polar ice. The South Pacific sailings pair beautifully with a pre-cruise stay in Tahiti, and the small-ship format means you’re visiting islands and atolls that larger vessels simply can’t reach. For culinary journeys, the onboard French-Polynesian fusion dining is a highlight.
